A State of Emergency ordered by Gov. Phil Murphy went into effect at 5 p.m., with state and local officials urging residents to stay off the roads.
As of 7:25 p.m., more than 2,000 residents in Hunterdon County were in the dark, according to JCP&L, including 123 in Delaware; 729 in Lambertville City; 733 in Raritan; 437 in West Amwell, and more.
In Morris County, 3,360 JCP&L customers were without power. Those are residents of Mount Olive where 2,449 people were in the dark and Washington Township where 873 residents were without power.
According to Atlantic City Electric, 933 customers in Millville were without power; 805 in Elk; 605 in Franklin (Gloucester County); 727 in Logan; 479 in Monroe; and more than 1,000 in Woolwich.
In Alloway (Salem), more than 758 ACE customers were in the dark.
Orange & Rockland Electric reported 542 Ringwood residents without power.
"Strong to damaging winds" were being forecast across the region, with gusts reaching between 40 and 60 mph, the NWS said. Wind will be strongest near the coasts where peak gusts could reach 70 mph.
